Transport Fever 2 – Regio2N Showcase
25In this episode, I invite you to discover several variants of the Regio2N introduced on the "France – Rhône-Alpes" map in Transport Fever 2. These bi-level regional trains are faithfully reproduced in their region-specific versions. Through various routes, we explore their design, capacity, and operational performance.
The Regio2N is a double-deck multiple unit developed by Bombardier (now part of Alstom) to meet the growing demand for capacity on regional lines. Available in different lengths (from 6 to 10 cars) and top speeds (160 or 200 km/h), it comes in multiple sub-series (Z 55500 to Z 59000), tailored to the needs of each French region.
The regions currently operating Regio2N trains include: Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Brittany, Centre-Val de Loire, Hauts-de-France, Île-de-France, Normandy, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Occitanie, Pays de la Loire, and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur.
We begin our journey with a service between Lyon-Perrache and Saint-André-le-Gaz, operated by the short version of the Z 55500 in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes livery. This set, designed for suburban services, is a great example of high-capacity regional transport.
Next, we head to the Rhône Valley with a service between Tournon-sur-Rhône and Lyon-Perrache, featuring a long version of the Z 55500 in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur colors, deployed to meet the high demand on busy routes.
We then follow a high-speed route between Valence TGV and Mâcon-Loché TGV, operated by Z 56500, Z 56600 and Z 56700 trainsets. These variants, ordered by the Pays de la Loire, Normandy, and Centre-Val de Loire regions respectively, are configured to run at 200 km/h for fast interregional services.
Finally, we close this showcase with a nostalgic service between Mâcon and Lyon-Perrache, hauled by a BB 22200 locomotive pulling a V2N trainset. This iconic composition from the 1990s–2000s brings back memories of the time when locomotive-hauled trains handled a significant share of heavy regional services.
