TripleHate Reads: Jack and the Beanstalk (Joseph Jacobs, English Fairy Tales)
Continuing my recent trend of old myths, legends, and fairy tales today, kids! Having already covered Jack The Giant Killer on this channel, it is only fair that I cover an even older account, the oldest version of the tale of Jack and the Beanstalk I could find, courtesy of Joseph Jacobs, 1860-90 in English Fairy Tales (I am aware of the existence of even older versions, but none of those could be located). Notable in this version for the giant being referred to as an ogre, the inclusion of the ogre's wife (a character not present in many later versions), and Jack making multiple robbery attempts before felling the beanstalk.
