Once you chop a tree you have all the necessary materials for a bow.

Pickaxe is useful for mining larger rock and iron deposits throughout the map.

Once you have a bow you can easily take down Bears, Deer and Wolves for meat and hide.

The bears can be easily kite and shot with the bow.
4:58 Wolf slayer and level up
Most actions produce some amount of experience, killing enemies give greater amounts of xp. Upon level you get two stat points to spend.
