Unveiling the Terrifying Legend of the Qalupalik: Inuit Mythology's Sinister Water Spirit. #Legend
The Inuit mythology of the qalupalik or qallupilluit is a creature that looks like a drowned woman's reanimated corpse, with long fingernails and slimy green skin.
They are said to have scaly or rough skin and to always smell like sulfur.
For a totally opposite purpose, qalupaliks scour the ground near thin and broken ice in an attempt to pick up unattended children and take them back into the amautik where they will drown.
They wear amautiks, the same clothing that Inuit mothers wear to carry their children on their backs.
If a child ventures too near to the water, they may hear noises like humming or knocking from the ice below.
Those are unmistakable indications that a qalupalik has seen them and is attempting to draw them nearer to the edge of the lake.
These monsters never show their victims again.
