It turns out that further science has determined there was a data error in the KIC 9832227 prediction of a Red Nova in 2022, and in fact it is no longer believed to be heading in that direction. The paper refuting it can be found at https://arxiv.org/abs/1809.02771, a statement from the team at https://web.archive.org/web/20200316232126/www.calvin.edu/academic/phys/observatory/MergingStar/2018Update.html . This used to be a part of their website related to the discovery, but has since been removed as the event won't happen.
