Vampire: The Masquerade Swansong ► Gameplay and overview part 1 #1
Vampire: The Masquerade - Swansong is hardly a big step up from The Council, but that doesn't make it a bad game. It's a decent detective story whose authors respect the "World of Darkness" universe and are clearly immersed in it. Too bad there's not enough timing for an ambitious role-playing system - the game ends the moment it feels like you've just started character development. Well, you can't help but feel sorry for the facial animations - fortunately, it's hard to spoil a fascinating story.
Plusses: a fascinating story with three main characters whose destinies can take shape in different ways; beautiful locations, of which there are noticeably more than in The Council; still original for the genre role-playing system that allows different ways to behave in dialogues; to solve riddles and pick up passwords is not boring, and for such meticulousness are also rewarded; voluminous codex, revealing a lot of details about the "World of Darkness" universe.
Cons: facial animation leaves a lot to be desired; role-playing elements are cramped within the game - the timing is not enough to unlock their potential; the ending is a bit bogged down.
