A Verdugo was created by a fusion of human and insect DNA completely controlled by a Plaga.Two Verdugos served as Ramón Salazar's bodyguards. They concealed their mutated forms beneath voluminous, resplendent Los Iluminados cloaks, with one wearing red and the other wearing black. One of them was possibly the result of transforming Salazar's butler.
When Leon survived a booby trap in Salazar Castle, Ramón Salazar sent his red-cloaked Verdugo to kill the intruder personally. The creature spied on Leon as he made his way through the sewer in hopes of finding a way back; he later entered a mysterious cooling chamber just as the Verdugo planned; it then charged against the chamber door to imprison the agent. The Verdugo started stalking Leon and blew its cover when Leon survived its assassination attempt by killing/evading the creature.
In the original game, the black-cloaked Verdugo remains at Salazar's side, eventually fusing with its master and the Queen Plaga to fight Leon, only for them to be killed. In the Remake, it is given the name "Pesanta" and the designation "U-III" (effectively replacing the cut U-3 boss from the original game) with its own backstory, but is no longer at Salazar's side when Leon faces him. Its current whereabouts are unknown.
