Translation from SamIAm of the V.R. Virtua Racing reviews [1995-12-22 issue, page 202]:
(Please keep in mind, these are quick and rough translations, giving us the general gist of what they're saying in the magazine.)
"Plentiful courses, plentiful cars, with everything from go-carts to F1 racers. The grand prix mode where you earn points as you go is quite exciting, and it's nice to be able to choose original Saturn courses. I just can't deal with how hard the courses are to look at. The way the point of view switches around depending on the circumstances as you race is impossible for beginners to deal with. I wanted the display to at least be easier to understand. The scant music is the same as the arcade, so I'm not going to say much about it, but I remember little in the way of it being enjoyable. Since you're able to choose your car, I wanted the F1 car to feel a little faster. (6) [written by Atsuko]
At a glance, it looks pretty, and it's fun with all the new courses they prepared. However, as someone who was in charge of [reviewing?] the Mega Drive, 32X and arcade versions, I can't accept how the controls feel different. Doing precise cornering is what was so fun about the original game, but the Saturn version feels like it has a tendency toward understeering, like you just can't turn. In conclusion, if this were an original game, I'd give it a 7 or 8, but since it's a port of a game as big as Virtua Racing, I'm subtracting 2. (6) [written by "London" Kobayashi]
Once upon a time, Yu Suzuki gathered a huge amount of data about cars, took the first 3D board from the biggest name in arcade games, and created the masterpiece that is the basis for this game. I was eagerly anticipating a port of this masterpiece, which drew the curtain on the present age of 3D. However, this Saturn port? Maybe it's because another company ported it, but despite it appearing similar, the control and the contents of the game are weak. The various new cars and courses, and the cool replay mode, are all perfectly enjoyable, but the more passionate fans will find it lacking. The load times are long, too. (6) [written by Uncle Jam]"
