We Stopped By The Obscure Distillery In Los Angeles!
0Tucked away in the arts district of Los Angeles lies an amazing distillery that's been open for quite some time. So long that they're about to start, in the near future, their third variation of their experience.
We here at Nerd News Social love a distillery that focuses not only on the art of creating spirits, but also the spirit of art, incorporating and associating the art into the experience with the enjoyment of the spirits.
With that in mind, when we arrived at The Obscure and saw the jet black building nestled amongst the warehouses and co-ops of the Arts District, we were taken aback, in a good way. The next thing that hit us once we entered into the small, but green, garden, was how filled it was with the notes of Jazz. Immediately the style and format of the experience hit us, this was a New Orleans inspired experience. It made a lot of sense since the small green patio are was shared with a Southern-Modern influenced cafe that also sells amazing beignets.
After checking in, they lead you to a waiting area that looks like the interior of a volcano, which we imagine, when cold enough, the fire pits make the area sing.
Once we entered the actual experience, we finally understood the motif of the experience. The next room was a dark, barely lit courtyard with spiraling trees and candles nestled amongst them, with globe lights that mimic small moons, casting a blue soft light upon its guests and the experience.
Imagery and style made us feel as if we were back at the Blue Bajou, and everything made sense.
Through the experience we got the chance to sample three spirits, Harbinger Jakarta Rum, Rites of Fall Rye, and Three Gates Génépi Liqueur, and then three cocktails that were mixed with those spirits.
Each cocktail stood out further than the last, and was tied into a great story and journey through history. First with the creation of Rum, the history of chestnut trees within the USA, and a journey to a second location with a super sweet spirit, and amazing cocktail combination. We only checked out their second season performance and spirits, but they are still showcasing their first season, and have plans to release a third season in the near future.
