Professor David Nutt discusses his groundbreaking research on the medical use of cannabis and other drugs on conditions such as anxiety and depression.

00:00 Introduction
00:25 Why did you decide to write about cannabis now?
03:42 Is there a difference in the background of doctors for and against its legalization?
05:21 What are the most harmful myths about cannabis?
11:53 Why is the West reticent about psychedelics? What does it reveal?
15:37 How do we reconcile your current research with your past government work?
17:25 How has your research impacted you?

Why should we legalise canabis? Why did the war on drugs get started? How can we move past debates about safety to regulation and decrimilisation. In this interview with the eminent Professor of Neuropsychopharmacology at Imperial College London, David Nutt argues that the last 70 years of drug policy has been a mistake. We ignored the long history of their uses as medicines and are struggling to get over this mistake.

David Nutt is a neuropsychopharmacologist and the former chairman of the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs in the UK, a position he was dismissed from in 2009. Now chair of the Independent Scientific Committee on Drugs, Nutt has been a fierce defender of science based policy around the legalisation and decrimilisation of cannabis and psychedelics. "Any sensible person or scientist knows that the drug laws are not based on the science of drugs."
