I'm not going to get into the origin of the doughnut (although I do touch on it) and I'm not going to get into the correct spelling of doughnut (although it's obvious that the lazy American spelling 'donut' is blatantly wrong). Instead, I'm going to tell you why doughnuts are called 'doughnuts'. Well the 'dough' part is pretty obvious, but why the 'nuts' part because your standard run-of-the-mill doughnut does not contain any nuts? Let me attempt to clear this up...and probably fail miserably.
