While cooperative play is not mandatory for objectives, working together can greatly benefit your chances of survival.

Your ultimate goal is to complete Murkoff's therapy and earn your freedom. This involves tackling immersive story-driven Trials, which require time to complete, and engaging in shorter MK-Challenges set in modified areas of existing maps. In classic Outlast fashion, gameplay revolves around evading enemies, hiding, and fleeing. Murkoff provides tools to enhance your stealth capabilities, create escape opportunities, slow down enemies, and more. However, these tools must be earned and improved through hard work.

Your tools will enable you to stun enemies, blind them, see through walls, and even heal yourself and those around you. Prepare to face disturbing tasks assigned by Murkoff in each trial or MK-Challenge, and only upon completion will you be allowed to exit. Customize and create your own trial patient, and personalize your cell, your home during therapy, with decorations of your choice.

Meet the Denizens of Murkoff's Sinyala Facility, who will offer assistance as you navigate the trials. Can you make it through this harrowing experience? You've been abducted by the Murkoff Corporation for unethical experiments that will manipulate your psyche and behavior throughout the Trials. Collect documents and items that expose Murkoff's malpractice against its patients.

The Process in The Outlast Trials unfolds in three stages: Break the Self, Build the Self, and Salvation. Murkoff's aim is to dismantle the test subject's fundamental beliefs, attacking their self-identity and forcing them to purge anything sacred or limiting their behavior.
