You play as mercenaries tasked with protecting a secret research institute in the Republic of Zaslavie.
The Scientific Research Institute of the Zaslavie Exclusion Zone (SIRZEZ) was built before the war to study anomalies and artifacts. Over time, these artifacts sparked conflicts between international military blocs. Neither side could allow them to fall into enemy hands, which eventually led to nuclear war.
A siren sounds, a nuclear bomb is approaching! You have 60 seconds to grab what you can and run to the bunker.
Then the survival begins. Every day you set out to explore the Exclusion Zone in search of resources, visiting randomly generated locations: abandoned military bases, research stations, radioactive wastelands, and ruined cities.
The Zone is full of secrets and deadly traps, and radiation isn't the only threat.
You'll encounter other survivors willing to kill for food and supplies, mutated creatures with strange behaviors, and many anomalies.
No one knows for sure how the anomalies work or their origin. Some may help you, others will tear you apart. Areas affected by anomalies often hide artifacts, rare and valuable items warped by these forces and loaded with unique effects.
The bunker is your new home.
Expand it room by room: install generators (gas-powered, solar-powered, or even gnome-powered), build crafting stations, grow food, cook dishes, and decorate your shelter with everything you collect from raids: a table, a dresser, a worn-out couch, or even a cozy rug. Don't worry, their former owners no longer need them.
After each raid, you can relax in the institute's basement bar: have a drink, talk to other survivors, and trade your loot and rare artifacts with the trader.
Remember: monitor your vital signs.
In the Zone, you can easily die of hunger, thirst, or radiation sickness—or lose your sanity and attack your teammates. Go out and loot during the day and return to the bunker before nightfall.
And one last thing: the Zone plays tricks on your mind.
Too much stress, and you'll start hearing whispers, seeing things that aren't there, and feeling like someone is watching you.
If you lose control, not even the bunker can save you. Nothing can.
Life in MISERY isn't easy.
But there's nothing better than facing it all together.
Exploring ruins with friends, looking out for each other, sitting by the fire, drinking the last of what's left and exhaling the smoke in the cold rain—in those moments, you feel alive again.
