Every year 21st September is observed as World Alzheimer's Day. Alzheimer's disease is a neuro-degenerative disorder that generally affects the elderly. It is the most common form of dementia which impairs mental functioning.
The number of those affected with Alzheimer's is highest in Asia. The prevalence of the condition in India is one in 20 for people over 60 years and one in five for people over 80 years. The condition develops slowly, but it can get worse and become severe enough to interfere with daily tasks. Early diagnosis can help individuals in effectively managing the disorder and leading a better life style.
