Get ready - get set - get psyched! The World Games are here! And you're a star athlete in this awesome international competition! Go for the gold as you challenge the world's best athletes on their home turf!

Leap from the treacherous cliffs of Acapulico. Go stomach-to-stomach with a 400-pound Japanese sumo wrestler. Jump barrels on an icy lake in Germany. And pump heavy iron in the Soviet Union.

Travel to Scotland for the amazing caber toss! Then to Canada for frantic footwork with log rolling lumberjacks. Ski the slalom on the snow-covered French Alps. And ride the meanest, orneriest bull in the U.S.A.!

Return home with enough gold medals and join the World Hall of Fame!


Overview

World Games was developed in 1986 by Epyx for a wide range of systems including the Commodore 64, Apple II, and the Sega Master System. The NES version was ported by Rare Ltd and published by Milton Bradley Co.

World Games was part of Epyx's extremely successful sports line which included such titles as Summer Games I and II, and Winter Games.

The Commodore 64 version of the game was made available on the Nintendo Wii Shop on the 25th of April 2008.
Events

Not all events were available in any given version of the game. The events varied from platform to platform for example the Apple II version does not contain the same events as the Commodore 64 version.
Event

Barrel jumping

Jump over as many barrels as possible – between 3 and 20 – while ice skating.

Bull riding

Ride a bull as long as possible. The player can choose between five different bulls.
In rising difficulty: Ferdinand, Elmer, Bob, Tornado and Earthquake.

Caber toss

Thow a caber (pole) as far as possible.

Cliff diving

Dive into water from a cliff. The player can choose from 3 different heights.

Log rolling

Balance on a log while attempting to make the opponent lose their own balance. Can be played against the computer or another player.

Slalom skiing

Ski through colored gates downhill.

Sumo wrestling

Push the oponent out of the ring or to the ground. Can be played against the computer or another player.

Weightlifting

The player must lift weights of beween 75 and 225 kg above the head in two disciplines; Snatch and Clean and Jerk.

Reception

The game was well received upon release. Computer Gaming World lauded the games use of advanced graphics and sound as well as its variety.

Dragon, a Dungeons and Dragons publication gave the game a 5 out of 5 stars in its computer gaming section.
