WOTC's OGL Scandal Inspires European RPG Studios Union
154In the midst of the OGL scandal surrounding Wizards of the Coast and Dungeons and Dragons, a group of European gaming studios has stood up to form the European RPG Studios Union, a group formed specifically to "promote RPGs as art and protect creators".
It's a lofty goal and one that is inspiring in its undertaking. According to Dicebreaker, their goal is to promote tabletop roleplaying games and advocate for the recognition of tabletop RPGs “as a genre of literature and form of art before national and European institutions”, as well as serving to protect creators in the tabletop industry.
I'll be watching the ESU as they continue to expand upon their vision and look forward to watching how they grow in the face of the ongoing chaos surrounding WOTC and the OGL and the future of D&D and all tabletop gaming, with groups such as Paizo's ORC Alliance also leading the charge.
