WRESTLEMANIA EP437: NEW LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION TO BE CROWNED IN 6 MAN LADDER MATCH!
When Mr. McMahon announced that a new Light Heavyweight Championship would be inaugurated at WrestleMania, fans quickly began speculating as to who the eventual champion would be, given the stacked nature of the division. Featuring legendary talent across all eras, the likes of Rey Mysterio, Eddie Guerrero, Macho Man Randy Savage, Bret The Hitman Hart, AJ Styles, HBK, Ricky The Dragon Steamboat, Kofi Kingston, Finn Balor and many more.. everyone knew that this would a title progression that was sure to excite.
And excitement was the name of the game.. Mr. McMahon made it clear from the very beginning that in the initial phase at least, he was looking more at superstars that could wow the crowds than simply looking at win/losses.. so everyone had to bring their A-Game in every match.
After a long hard road and many a top star having fallen by the wayside, we have whittled the contenders down to the final 6, who will now battle each other in a Ladder Match to be crowned the new Light Heavyweight Champion of the World.
Here's a rundown of the contenders:
Daniel Bryan is a former World Heavyweight champion and shocked many by eliminating the much fancied Jester (altho he may have to send Finn Balor a thank you note for that one).
Kofi Kingston, also a former World Heavyweight champion also pulled off something of an upset when he defeated fellow former champion Rey Mysterio in their elimination round clash. Time for the New Day to ascend?
The Phenomenal AJ Styles who eliminated favorite Shawn Michaels (after some interference from Archangel) must surely walk into this match among the favorites... another former World Heavyweight Champion.
Seth Rollins.. perhaps the man most have touted to be crowned, has racked up the most victories in the buildup to WrestleMania. The Kingslayer remains undefeated since Royal Rumble.. and eliminated Finn Balor in his knockout round match to make the final.. Another former champion looking to regain some gold standing.
The Dragon, Ricky Steamboat... a legendary competitor and the only challenger who is not a former World Heavyweight champion, but no one will underestimate the in-ring prowess of the Dragon. When the GOAT Ric Flair says that his greatest career matches were against Ricky Steamboat, it tells you all you need to know about the man. Eliminated former champion Macho Man Randy Savage is another classic to reach the WrestleMania title match.
Last...but certainly not least.. The Best there is... The Best there was, The Best there ever will be... the Hitman, Bret Hart. Another former champion, and once the leader of the new generation, The Hitman has been making huge in-roads into the singles division, and a win here would be well in line with his progression. Eliminated fan favorite Latino Heat Eddie Guerrero to make this title match.
So here we go...to crown a new Light Heavyweight champion..
