WWE 2K24 Backlash France (Cody Rhodes vs. AJ Styles)
Cody Rhodes defends the WWE Championship against AJ Styles. In the wake of Rhodes dethroning Roman Reigns to become the WWE Undisputed Champion at WrestleMania XL, SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis announced there will be an Eliminator Tournament, with the winners of two triple threat matches going on to face off in a one on one match that will determine who would challenge Rhodes for the WWE Championship at Backlash France. Styles would go on to win the Eliminator Tournament, defeating Kevin Owens and Rey Mysterio in a triple threat match, and defeating LA Knight (who won the other triple threat match) in the finals in the process. The next week, Rhodes and Styles encountered each other, with Styles stating even though Rhodes finishing the story was necessary, his reign as champion will be short lived; Rhodes would counter this by saying their match is not a dream match as many proclaim it to be, but a must win on his part to establish his prominence as the WWE Champion. The next week, at a Backlash press event, Styles would insult Rhodes, reminding the latter he had beat his father Dusty Rhodes in the past (Styles defended the NWA World Heavyweight Championship against Dusty at a NWA/TNA PPV event years prior in October 2003), and he can beat Rhodes for the WWE Championship at Backlash France.
