Xenoblade Chronicles 1 and 2 have this problem with party AI. If the encounter a wall between them and the player and they are off screen they will teleport to the player or if they are far enough away on screen. But if u can keep them close on screen but be just out of the AI's range for when it's with the player, this kind of thing happens. It's amusing as hell but also confusing as hell as well.
