Yakuza 6 PC, tested on Ryzen 5 3600 and Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti.

Greetings, everybody.

Yakuza 6: The Song of Life is finally here for us PC users, and as usual we’ll be testing how it runs on my system.

I've also tested Yakuza Like a Dragon now: https://youtu.be/IoqgD46M7pQ , great new saga for the series, and first game with Temporal Anti-Aliasing and no specular shimmering, yay!.

My current PC specs are the following:

-CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 (stock settings) with Coolermaster Hyper 212 Black RGB (w/2 fans, push-pull).
-Mobo: MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC.
-GPU: Gigabyte RTX 3060 Ti Gaming OC and WHQL driver 461.92.
-RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport LT (2x8GB) CL16 DDR4@3200 Mhz.
-Storage: PNY XLR8 CS3030 1TB NVMe (O.S. and game), Samsung 750 EVO 500 GB.
-Case: Fractal Design Meshify S2 (Intake: 2x140 Front, 1x120 Lower Front - Exhaust: 1x140 Rear, 1x120 Top/VRM Area).
-PSU: Corsair RMx 650W 80+ Gold.
-O.S: Windows 10 Pro 64bit (v.2004).
-Monitor: AOC AGON AG251FG 1080p-240Hz.

Some timestamps:

[SETTINGS and MENUS]
00:00 - Intro and general settings (Audio, Camera, etc.)
02:25 - Controls and Keybinds (remapping, etc.)
05:06 - Graphics Settings

[IN GAME - GAMEPLAY]
07:34 - Cutscene at 1080p Ultra Settings, SSAA 1.5x
08:58 - Frame pacing / stuttering issue (Orphanage area)
15:02 - More stuttering analysis (SSAA related) (Kamurocho area)
17:19 - Uncapped FPS, no SSAA, and no stuttering
17:56 - [1080p]Low Settings testing
19:09 - [1080p]Medium Settings
19:52 - [1080p]High Settings
20:46 - [1080p]Ultra Settings
21:52 - DSR Downsampling stuttering (same as SSAA)
23:01 - Aliasing / Shimmering still terrible (even at SSAA 2x and 1440p DSR combined)
24:09 - Individual Graphics Settings performance impact (relative to GPU usage, 60 FPS cap, SSAA 1.5x)
29:42 - Some Kamurocho roaming / combat, 1080p Ultra Preset, unlimited FPS (no SSAA)
31:49 - My Custom Settings for the 3060 Ti (1080p Ultra, SSAA 1.5x, 60 FPS cap)
35:10 - Onomichi area, night time gameplay (1080p Ultra, SSAA 1.5x, 60 FPS)

Yakuza 6 is another game using the Dragon Engine, in fact it was the first game in the series using it, therefore one could argue that the tech used in the following games (Kiwami 2, Judgment and Like a Dragon) is a tiny bit more refined since those games came after Yakuza 6, not too long after though, but still, they did.

In any case, the first major issue I instantly noticed is a case of really bad frame pacing and stuttering; long story short: after some time spent testing stuff, I realized it only happened when two main conditions meet: using Super Sample Anti-Aliasing, and at the same time our current FPS aren’t stable and don’t meet the established FPS limit in game, for example 60 FPS cap in game not being met, and going below 60 FPS, then the stutter appears.

At first I could get stutter even when not using SSAA, but then in later areas outside the initial Orphanage intro, the game ran fine without issues even when uncapping the FPS, as long as SSAA wasn’t used.

Anyway, that issue aside, we get the same nice stuff as in previous releases, like really nice Controls and Keybinds settings, where we can remap some of the keys and gamepad buttons (some can’t be remapped, but it’s not a huge deal since most controls for mini games and stuff are pretty simple).

A new addition compared to Kiwami 2 is the option to choose the desired gamepad button prompts: Xbox, PS4, Switch I believe, not sure, and generic number numbers, which is also nice. The auto detection will recognize your current gamepad though, especially if it’s officially supported by Steam as in my case (Dualshock 4).

My recommended settings, like in Kiwami 2 are 1080p native, Ultra Settings and Super Sample Anti-Aliasing set to 1.5x, with a 60 FPS cap, be it in game or via Rivatuner / NVCP. That’s for the 3060 Ti at least, and in my case when playing on a 1080p native screen. Those seem to be the best quality / performance settings that leave enough GPU headroom to keep a constant 60 FPS at all times, pretty much same settings I used in my Yakuza Kiwami 2 analysis.

All in all, the port is not perfect, as most other ports in the franchise, but the issues can be mitigated for now or bypassed completely.

Kiwami 2 also had this fan mod/patch called “SilentPatch”, and it seems the author of the mod are currently playing and testing the game, so maybe they’ll look into it and release yet another fix…which in reality it’s the developers the ones who should do this, so let’s wait and see what happens first (my money is on the mod, as usual).

I hope this can be useful to any of you, and I’ll see you next time : )
