YouTube Removing Annotations -- do you approve or disapprove?
YouTube's Creator Blog recently announced that YouTube will end annotations on May 2nd. This new change will not affect currently implemented annotations, but it will mean that after May 2nd, you will no longer be able to submit new annotations for videos.
YouTube's arguments are that end screens and cards are a good replacement for annotations, especially as end screens and cards are mobile friendly, whereas annotations are not.
However, I think there's reason to believe that there are functions that annotations served on YouTube that are not well covered by end screens and cards...namely, annotations annotated. Annotations were helpful for correcting mistakes after publishing videos or for providing supplemental data for viewers.
