Sopranos for me is the best television show of all time largely because of one man, James Gandolfini. The portrayal of this clearly disturbed fellow who tries to balance his work life and personal life is fascinating. His regular battles with himself, his family and people around him make it compelling television, he was the first "anti-hero" and for me and alot of others, I'm sure he will always be considered as the greatest television character ever.
The show could blend humor, darkness and sadness in a scene, the writing was out of this world and the acting was truly phenomenal, not a weak link in the whole show.
Another thing why I think Sopranos is considered the greatest show ever is because it feels so real, an example when watching Tony and Carmella fight in season four, it felt like your own parents were having a fight, not these two amazing actors.
