π Quick Notes: Key Points from the Lesson
1οΈβ£ What are Atoms?
Atoms are the smallest units of matter.
Made up of protons, neutrons, and electrons.
2οΈβ£ The Structure of an Atom
Protons (+): Found in the nucleus, positive charge.
Neutrons (0): Found in the nucleus, neutral charge.
Electrons (-): Orbit the nucleus, negative charge.
3οΈβ£ Elements & The Periodic Table
An element is a substance made of only one type of atom.
The Periodic Table organizes elements based on their properties.
4οΈβ£ What are Compounds?
Compounds are substances made of two or more different atoms chemically bonded together.
Examples: Water (HβO), Carbon Dioxide (COβ), Sodium Chloride (NaCl).
5οΈβ£ Mixtures vs. Compounds
Mixtures are physically combined (e.g., air, saltwater).
Compounds are chemically combined (e.g., HβO, COβ).
6οΈβ£ Writing Chemical Formulas
HβO (Water) β 2 hydrogen atoms + 1 oxygen atom.
COβ (Carbon Dioxide) β 1 carbon atom + 2 oxygen atoms.
NaCl (Salt) β 1 sodium atom + 1 chlorine atom.
