One year after the events of Xenoblade Chronicles, Shulk and Melia embark on an adventure to locate Alcamoth, in the Bionis Shoulder, a location that is still floating unlike the rest of Bionis. As soon as they locate Alcamoth they're being fired a beam which crashes the Junks (A.k.a. Machina's ship) into a lake. They're stranded in the shoulder, then they spot 2 child nopon, they turn out to be two of Riki's children Nene and Kino, they had snuck into the Junks when Shulk and Melia were planning the trip. Nene and Kino are the new party members, looking at their arts Nene is a Reyn and Kino is a Sharla.

Fun fact the Bionis Shoulder was a cut area in the original Xenoblade 2010 release, it was only accesible through hacking at the time but now its a full explorable area in Future Connected.
