12 Actors That are Copies of their Animated Characters
622In the world of animation, you can have actors voice everything from magical creatures to inanimate objects. But that doesn’t stop animators from occasionally designing characters who are total copies of their voice actors. We went behind the screen and behind the voices for some of your favorite Disney and Pixar movies to round up the best actor/character lookalikes.
Some members of the Familia Madrigal look more like their offscreen counterparts than others, and we think Ravi Cabot-Conyeres who voices Antonio is almost a dead ringer for his character. It was also exciting to discover that there’s a very special reason that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson bares such a striking resemblance to his character in Moana. Maui was designed to look like Dwayne Johnson’s grandfather who was a Samoan high priest!
Some animated characters were intended to look like their voice actors from the very beginning, where in other cases it was more of a happy accident. John C. Reilly and Jane Lynch were very involved in the creative process for Wreck-It Ralph, which meant animators closely modeled the video game characters off the real life actors. Same goes for Key and Peele in the Netflix hit, Wendell & Wild. But over at Pixar, designs were already taking shape for Carl in Up and Sadness in Inside Out before Ed Asner and Phillis Smith were cast. Somehow, the characters and actors still went on to be a perfect match.
