#146 Standard USB-C Meter production. ONE Duratool/Powertech Multimeter left to give away
Doing electronics assembly in your own workshop is great until you realise the fumes are obnoxious at the best of times ( even with good paste ). In the past I've found I have to leave the workshop for about 20 minutes with all the windows open and all the filtering systems running.
To try solve this annoyance I've been on the look out for a box to contain my very compact reflow oven but ultimately I located a 12U portable network cabinet at a decent price ($150) and decided to give it a try with some modifications.
Drawing the air out is a small 4"/100mm extractor fan I bought many years ago but never used because it didn't have the drawing power I needed for open-desk fume extraction ( 8" was required ), however now it has found its home, attached to the top of the 12U cabinet. Venting is straight to outside via a flexible duct.
Overall the results are good; still some room for improvement but it's actually livable now.
Next step will be to remove the top grille of the network cabinet, that should improve airflow at least 100%, though it might have an unwanted side effect of cooling the reflow process too much, so I'll have to potentially adjust the reflow profile.
