14F) Knights of the Round (Labyrinth of Touhou 1 Special Disc)
Probably one of the more unique (and more annoying) fights in Labyrinth of Touhou 1. Rather than a simple, single boss fight, the recruitment of Rin requires you to fight a gauntlet of mini-bosses before you can take a crack at the Hell Cat herself.
This gauntlet is really just the same mini-boss copy and pasted multiple times, but the structure still makes this a unique fight for the series. LOT2 occasionally makes you do consecutive fights, but caps it at two max battles. LOT2's consecutive fights also expect you to lose those second battles for story reasons (except in the Futo fight, that one you have to win both).
LOT1 only has one other battle like this, the boss rush, but that's going for a completely different thing, since this is a gauntlet intentionally meant to wear down your party, while the boss rush has you one-shotting most of the bosses, and is probably only that way for programming reasons (I'm basing this off how LOT2's boss rush works completely differently).
There are 6 encounters in total, and it goes 1 Knight - 1 Knight - 2 Knights - 2 Knights - 3 Knights - Actual Boss (Rin).
Anyway, the annoying part of this fight comes from LOT1's TP system. If a character gets swapped into the front with low enough TP, they cannot be switched out. It's something that doesn't really matter in regular gameplay (random encounters don't last that long), but it's a problem here because low TP characters like Youmu or Patchouli can be "trapped" in slots during the gauntlet phase.
It's a very stupid and annoying problem. The only counterplay is bringing high TP characters (like Yuugi) and characters who will be useful for the gauntlet but not the Rin fight (Kaguya. Hourai Barrage is very good for the Knights, and very bad for Rin who has high SPI affinity).
