First up is an insane update secretly added in Patch 8 on top of sorcerous sundries. In Act 3 you can find Tara the Tressym on the roof of the open hand temple. Previously, if you had Speak with Animals you could talk with Tara and progress her from this location to her second location where you could purchase magical items from her by bartering your own magical items, or fish. Now in Patch 8, the whole sequence of events has completely changed, actually making it much harder to acquire the items that Tara offers.
The first major change is that in order to get Tara to appear at her second location at all, you need to have Gale in your party. I chose to have him take the conversation as well, and it seemed to work. You also need to previously have talked to the Sword Coast Couriers and accepted the quest Find the Missing Letters in order to politely ask Tara to stop devouring the courier pigeons.
Once this first conversation is complete, Long Rest and you can find Tara on top of the Devil’s Fee in the Lower City. However, to progress Tara to her final position, you need to purchase her magical item from her - which is completely missing in Patch 8! Unbelievably, you can find the magical item on top of Sorcerous Sundries - obtainable only through using Telekinesis on it to magically bring it to the ground. I honestly could not believe this is how the quest is done now. After you have the hat, you need to purchase it from Tara, so you need to reverse-pickpocket it onto her, then barter for it - wild. After that, long rest, and you can find Tara at her third and final location allowing you to buy her now very-elusive magical item: the Slinging Shoes - which deal 2d4 Psychic damage when thrown at a target, and they return to you when thrown.
Get Gortash to Join You
And next up is how to get any monster to permanently join your party - no mods required! This includes Gortash who comes with some pretty insane abilities such as Tyrant’s Bindings, and The Closed Fist of Bane which creates a massive floating hand above a target that will crash down dealing 12d10 Force Damage. To get any monster to permanently join your party, all you need to do is cast polymorph on it and then with another non-tav character cast Control Beast on the sheep. This will cause you to have the sheep as a temporary companion. From there, you’ll need to head back to camp and enter turn based mode so that the control beast doesn’t expire. Then, have your Tav tell the companion that is controlling the sheep to stay at camp. After you dismiss your companion, ask them to join you. Once done, the sheep will return to its original form, and will be permanently under your control.
Tav’s Secret Monologue About Scratch
And next up is secret monologues only available during a playthrough in which you recruit Scratch to your camp, but he somehow dies. Each character will mourn scratch with their own monologue when you try to throw Scratch’s ball. Some character’s monologues in my opinion hit harder than others, particularly Shadowheart’s where she says, “I didn’t do this enough, when I had the chance.” or “It’s silly… part of me felt like Scratch might still show up for his ball.”
