Forbes is a small community situated on U.S. Route 127 in Fentress County, Tennessee. It is known as a crossroads community and is recognized as a historic district listed on the National Register of Historic Places, named the Forbus Historic District. As of 1991, the community had a general store, one house, and several outbuildings.

The Forbus General Store, which was originally built by W.M. Johnson back in 1892, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The store has been serving the same community from the same location since its establishment. Over the years, it has undergone various changes, including the addition of a gas-powered gristmill, a blacksmith shop, and several granaries. The store has been a one-stop-shop for everything from hardware to guns and even caskets. It has witnessed the past, present, and future of the community it serves.

The local store used to buy produce and furs from nearby residents, and had an agreement to supply locally grown apples to a brandy maker in Pennsylvania. The store also sold a wide range of items including hardware, clothing, fertilizer, feed, school textbooks, guns, furniture, and caskets.
