1989 AGS JH24 F1 Cosworth DFR V8 Sound at Circuit Paul Ricard: Aggressive Warm Up & Accelerations!
For those who keep an eye on me on Instagram, you must have noticed that last weekend I was at Circuit Paul Ricard for the 2025 Grand Prix de France Historic. I've been keeping an eye on this event for a few years now but never really had any real intention of attending it until now. Never was a choice more wrong since I've now realized how awesome this event is, born with the intention of celebrating the history of Formula 1 and historic motorsport on the French circuit. During the 3-days there were several races for single-seaters and prototypes, as well as numerous free practice sessions and parades featuring some really interesting and forgotten cars from the past such as the one you see in this video.
It's called AGS JH24 and it's a F1 car built by the AGS team for the 1989 Formula One season. AGS stands for Automobiles Gonfaronnaises Sportives and it was a small French racecar constructor that competed in various racing categories (Formule France, Formula 3, Formula 2, F3000 and F1) over a period of thirty years. It was founded by the French mechanic, Henri Julien, who ran a filling station in Gonfaron, a provincial French village. AGS adventure in Formula 1 started in 1986 with many ups and downs but also some satisfactions in the following years. Things started to get worse right from 1989, the year in which JH24 debuted.
The car was powered by a 3.5-liter Ford Cosworth DFR V8 engine which was able to produce around 620 hp at 11,200 rpm. The two cars fielded were driven by Gabriele Tarquini and Yannick Dalmas, who replaced Joachim Winkelhock in the middle of the 1989 season.
After a decent start to the season with Tarquini able to bring the previous JH23B to the finish line into top 10 positions in 3 of the first 7 races, the team had to prequalify in the second half of the season, a task that was nearly never achieved by either Tarquini or Dalmas with the JH24. The car was used for the first few races of the 1990 season as a 'B' car, featuring revised suspensions, before being replaced by the JH25.
In this video you can watch and hear an ex-Gabriele Traquini chassis, managed by the current AGS Formula 1 company, which remained alive in the form of a Formula One driving school.
