가일

스트리트 파이터 시리즈의 등장인물. 최초 출연작은 스트리트 파이터 2.

풀네임은 스트리트 파이터 시리즈의 캐릭터가 대부분 그렇듯 따로 존재하지 않는다. 리처드 가일(Richard Guile)이라고도 알려졌으나, 공식 이름은 아니다. 흑역사급인 영화판 스트리트 파이터에서는 윌리엄 F. 가일(William F. Guile)이라고 나오지만 이 역시도 게임의 공식설정은 아니다.(영화판을 소재로 한 게임에서는 공식) 애시당초 캡콤에서 영화판 및 스트리트 파이터 더 무비는 공식적으로 별개의 물건으로 취급하고 있다.

미국 출신으로 미합중국 공군 현역 조종장교다. 계급은 스트리트 파이터 제로 3에 출연했을 때는 친구랑 같은 중위였으며 스트리트 파이터 2~스트리트 파이터 5 시대에서는 소령으로 진급. 극장판 애니메이션 스트리트 파이터 2 무비의 묘사를 보면 일단은 파일럿으로 근무하고 있는 듯하다. 그 헤어스타일로 헬멧도 쓴다. 예외적으로 스트리트 파이터(영화)에서만 홈그라운드(?)의 버프를 받아 대령으로 나오지만 소속이 미합중국 육군으로 변경되어있다.

왼쪽 어깨에 성조기 문신을 하고 있으며 자신과 친구 찰리 내쉬의 인식표를 언제나 목에 걸고 다닌다. 빗자루 머리를 하고 있으며 헤어스타일이 소중한 듯, 항상 빗으로 머리를 손질한다.

가일 스테이지의 배경인 군 비행장에는 늘 F-16이 있다. 시간이 흘러 후계기 급인 F-22나 F-35가 미디어에 자주 등장함에도 최신작까지 가일 스테이지 한가운데를 장식하는 중.

괴이한 외양과 달리 뼛속까지 충성심과 강직함을 겸비한 훌륭한 군인이다. 과묵하고 진지하며 감정을 쉽사리 드러내지 않는 냉정한 성격의 소유자이지만, 행동할 때에는 물불을 안 가리는 과격함도 갖춘 듯 하다. 격투가로서의 투쟁심도 강하여 고수들과의 싸움에 상당히 적극적으로 나가는 편이다.

게임 내 성능도 그렇고, 설정상으로도 스트리트 파이터 세계 내에서 손꼽히는 실력을 가진 격투가. 마샬 아츠를 기반으로 한 다양한 격투기에 능하고, 공기 중에 날카로운 칼날을 만들어내는 소닉붐과 서머솔트 킥은 그의 장기이다. 다양한 기본기가 증명하듯 가일의 격투 기본기의 완성도는 굉장히 높은 수준으며 류나 켄과 같은 강자들도 이를 인정하고 있다.스파 4의 최종보스인 세스가 가일을 쓰러뜨리면 "크하하하! 멋진 기술이구나. 네 기술은 내가 계승하도록 하마."라고 기뻐하는 것으로 미루어 기술적인 측면에서도 독보적인 경지에 이른 고수임에 분명하다.

일찍부터 상당한 무술실력을 가진 군인이었지만, 전우인 찰리 내쉬의 뛰어난 실력에 감탄하여 그로부터 모든 기술을 전수받았다. 이후 실력은 더욱 더 일취월장하여 내쉬 못지 않은 수준으로 거듭났지만, 가일 본인은 여전히 내쉬에게 미치지 못한다고 생각하고 있다. 그래서인지 내쉬에게 묘한 라이벌 의식이 있으며, 내쉬도 가일에게 "넌 아직도 소닉붐을 양손으로 쏘냐?"라고 살짝 놀리기도 한다.

가일의 작중 행보는 전반적으로 스트리트 파이터 시리즈 전부를 통틀어서 복수극 그 자체. 절친이자 전우인 내쉬를 죽인 원수 베가를 쓰러뜨리기 위해 아내 율리아와 딸 크리스의 곁을 떠나 복수의 길을 걷는다. 스파 2 시절의 배경 스토리에 따르면 내쉬 살해 혐의로 베가가 한 번 법정에 선 적이 있었지만, 법조계와의 커넥션으로 무혐의로 풀려났다고 한다.

직접 복수를 끝낸 뒤에는 가족의 곁으로 돌아와 행복한 여생을 살게 된다. 성격은 냉정하면서도 약간 무뚝뚝한 면이 있지만 실질적으로는 가정적인 가장이며 성실하고 좋은 사람. 극장판에서는 은근히 남자 츤데레 속성도 있다. 특히 춘리의 장난에 넘어가 진짜 죽은줄 알고 슬퍼하다 속은것을 알고 같이 장난치기도 한다.

캡콤 파이팅 잼의 엔딩에서는 세계구급 범죄조직 샤돌루의 수장 베가와 그 일당들을 응징한 전공을 인정받아 대장까지 진급, 장군이 됐다. 다만 옷 색깔을 보면 육군으로 전군당한 것 같은 모습도 보여준다(?)

켄과 마찬가지로 가족을 무척이나 사랑하는 가정적인 남편이자 아버지. 그의 가족사랑은 스트리트 파이터 2의 "Go home and be a family man!" 이라는 대사에서도 잘 드러나는데, 스트리트 파이터 4에서는 켄에게 승리할 시 이 대사를 그대로 읊는다.


Guile

Guile (ガイル Gairu?) is a video game character from the Street Fighter series, first appearing in Street Fighter II. He is a major in the United States Air Force whose goal is to destroy the criminal organization Shadaloo, while at the same time investigating the whereabouts of his best friend Charlie Nash.


Personality

Guile is a tough man, both physically and mentally, who takes pride in family, and is a loving husband and father to his family. A stoic man at heart, Guile's calm and emotionless exterior actually hides intense feelings, especially his fury after Charlie's death. Although loyal to the Air Force and the United States, Guile is extremely persistent. He always seeks to get the bottom of the matter, especially concerning Shadaloo, M. Bison and what happened with Charlie Nash, which has led to problems with his superiors despite their have high respect and esteem for him, and has caused pain to his family, which hurts him deeply.

In Street Fighter X Tekken, it is revealed that he is scared of bears, while he states in his win quote toward Dee Jay in Super Street Fighter IV that he only likes country music.

In Street Fighter V, Guile is shown to be a stoic and very focused person, always giving advice to others including Abel about recklessness, bravery and the will to survive the battlefield. He is also seen to be happy when he and Charlie are having a sparring match after both end up in a draw. However, during the game's story, his friendship with Charlie was damaged when Guile was overpowered by Charlie in a fight.


Story

Background

When Guile was a trainee in the United States Air Force, he befriended his superior officer, Charlie Nash and asked him to teach him his unique form of fighting, which Charlie agreed to do. Guile learned the style, but his hot temper caused him to lack proficiency in the moves compared to Charlie; Charlie can shoot Sonic Booms with one hand, while Guile needs both.


Gameplay and fighting

Guile's overall style revolves around patiently anticipating the opponent's next move and attacking. He has a strong mix of solid offense and defense, combined with reliable agility and air grabs. However, Guile can easily be baited into using his moves at the wrong time and be subject to sweeping and airborne attacks.

Guile's moveset has remained fairly consistent throughout his appearances compared to the rest of the cast - his only special moves are the Sonic Boom and Flash Kick. Both moves require a charge motion, thus, he requires a bit of skill and frequent use of certain situations such as jump-ins to integrate them into combos. Due to the greater difficulty of playing Guile offensively rather than defensively, Guile is known for trying to space his opponent more than trying to gain an offensive edge; staying one step ahead of his opponent and proper execution of his defensive patterns is vital.
