Encanto is the kind of movie that was made by an ensemble of people. It required a lot of minds every step of the journey. From the ever-changing plot to character designs to the improvisations to last-minute cut scenes. This movie went through a lot leading up to its premiere. First off, they made the smart decision not to do away with Julieta by Mirabel’s hand. Stephanie Beatriz (Mirabel) and John Leguizamo (Bruno) improvised a heck of a lot. We bet you can’t guess what super goofy moment came from Leguizamo’s quick thinking. There was a scene that was cut from the movie at the very last second that would have changed the ending. Coming up with Bruno’s name was a challenge for everybody. So was coming up with a plot for Isabela. The song all of you was originally twice as long and the lyrics are so heartfelt it’s just too bad they were cut. And speaking of cut, there were so, so, so many character concepts that didn’t go anywhere! One character had a secret room inside of their magical room in one design. Beatriz’s pregnancy proved to be a challenge but she powered through in the best way she knew how. Her audition song was also fire by the way. Isabela and Mirabel’s rivalry was way tenser in earlier drafts. There was a belly button budget set aside for the movie. Weird, right? The fish woman had an odd name in the script. One actor did her voice in three different languages. Like we said - it took an ensemble. Now watch the video if you aren’t already!
