Now becoming the first Human Spectre given by the Citadel Council, Commander Shepard goes on the hunt for Saren. She first travels to the Artemis Tau Cluster to find Matriarch Benezia's Daughter and Scientist, Liars T'Soni. Vanessa, Kaiden and Ashley fights through an army of Geth and finds Liara trapped in a force field. After fighting a Krogan Warlord and Rescuing Liara, Vanessa finds out Liara doesn't have any information on the Conduit or Saren and accepts Liara as a crew member.

While giving her report to the Citadel Council members, Shepard at first defends Liara believing she does want to help, but Tevos, the Asari Councilor, says Matriarch Benezia would never attack her own Daughter, it also didn't help when the other two council members isn't convinced that Liara is on their side. Considering Vanessa's loyalty to the Alliance and the Council because of her responsibility as a Spectre, her thoughts about Liara changed, and now she doesn't trust her and she made that clear when talking to Ashley Williams and asking her about Benezia's Daughter.
