This cell biology laboratory, reserved exclusively for biological science majors, is an investigative, project-based laboratory designed to expose students to a bona fide research experience involving the development and application of critical thinking skills to solve complex research problems. Working in groups of four to six, students devote themselves to tackling self-chosen research projects reviewed and approved by course instructors. The culmination of the laboratory experience ends when students formally prepare and present their findings in a poster-style scientific meeting.

One research group from the course is selected to receive the Braco Award. The 2013 winning group did a project on Niemann-Pick Type C disease and this video features highlights of their presentation.
