- For 2023, Ford has given the Escape SUV a stylish makeover that includes a new hood, grille, headlamps, and wheel designs.
- The familiar S, SE, SEL, and Titanium trims have been replaced with base, Active, Platinum, and PHEV trims, as well as a sporty-looking ST-Line model.
- Sync 4 is now standard, and the Escape can be ordered with larger gauge and infotainment display screens.
The Ford Escape is getting an attractive front-end redesign after only three model years on the market, which replaces the smiley fascia with a more upscale-looking one. The front fascia of the compact SUV has been redesigned with new lighting elements, a revised hood, and an updated front bumper design.
The grille on the 2023 Escape is wider than the one on the 2022 model and now sports the Ford oval emblem that was previously located on the SUV's hood. Higher-end models include a light bar that runs across the top of the grille and connects the headlamps.
The Escape lineup has been updated to include base, Active, Platinum, PHEV, and new ST-Line trim levels to go with its stylish new look. The ST-Line is a sporty-looking option that replaces the black plastic lower-body cladding on the Escape with body-colored alternatives, giving it a more hunkered-down appearance. The ST-Line also has distinctive 18- or 19-inch wheels and black faux-leather upholstery with red contrast stitching.
The Escape's four powertrain options remain unchanged, beginning with the 180-hp turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder. If you want to save fuel, an optional turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder produces 250 horsepower, and two different hybrids are available. The first hybrid is a traditional setup with a 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder and an electric motor; a plug-in-hybrid option adds an 11.2-kWh battery pack with enough juice to power the Escape for up to 37 miles on electric power. Both hybrids produce 210 horsepower, down 11 horsepower from last year's PHEV model.
This year, Ford's Sync 4 infotainment system is also available in the Escape. The system, which supports over-the-air updates, includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, which is displayed on a large 13.2-inch infotainment display on all models except the base model. The base trim has an 8.0-inch screen and an 8.0-inch digital gauge display; a larger 12.3-inch gauge display is optional beginning with the Active trim.
The Escape now has a slew of new features, including more advanced driver-assist tech like an evasive-steering assist system, a wireless smartphone charging pad, and a 360-degree exterior camera.
As a result, the Escape's price has risen slightly over the 2022 model, but only marginally. The base Escape will cost $28,995, a $335 increase over last year, while the Active will cost $30,340, the ST-Line $31,335, the Platinum $37,460, and the PHEV $39,995. Order books for the 2023 Escape have already opened, and Ford expects the updated SUV to arrive in dealerships in early 2023.
