2024 Jeep Wagoneer S Launch Edition Revealed
Jeep has made a significant leap in the electric vehicle market with the introduction of the Wagoneer S, its first electric vehicle for the United States. Revealed at a Thursday event in New York, this 600-horsepower, $71,995 luxury sport utility vehicle marks a new chapter for Jeep.
The Wagoneer S is built on Stellantis’ STLA-Large platform, following the new Dodge Charger. It features a 100.5-kilowatt-hour battery pack, promising a range of over 300 miles. While Jeep has not specified the charging rate in kilowatts, the Charger’s ability to charge at up to 350 kilowatts suggests that the Wagoneer S will be among the fastest-charging electric sport utility vehicles. Jeep claims that the Wagoneer S can charge from 20 to 80 percent in just 23 minutes on the most powerful direct current fast chargers.
In terms of design, the Wagoneer S stands apart from the boxy, full-size Wagoneer. It is notably smaller at 192.4 inches in length compared to the gasoline-powered Wagoneer’s 214.7 inches. The sleek design, with a pinched greenhouse and narrowly raked D-pillar reminiscent of Range Rover models, helps achieve a drag coefficient of 0.29. This is lower than any previous Jeep, although it does not match the Tesla Model Y’s 0.23. The iconic Jeep seven-slot grille remains, now purely ornamental due to reduced cooling needs, and it is illuminated for nighttime visibility.
Inside, the Wagoneer S is a technological marvel, boasting 45 inches of usable screen space spread across the gauge cluster, main infotainment display, climate control display, and passenger display. The Launch Edition features a standard 19-speaker McIntosh sound system.
Equipped with a dual-motor powertrain for all-wheel drive, the Wagoneer S delivers 600 horsepower and 617 pound-feet of torque, achieving a 0-60 miles per hour time of just 3.4 seconds. However, Jeep has not emphasized the Wagoneer S’s off-road capabilities, likely reserving details for the off-road-ready Trailhawk concept.
The Wagoneer S includes drive modes for snow and sand, advanced safety systems, and a home level-2 charger. Expected to arrive at U.S. dealers this fall, Jeep may expand the Wagoneer S lineup and even introduce gasoline power in the future.
