2025 VW Golf R Black Edition Explained
Volkswagen is giving the 2025 Golf R a fresh update, and one of the most exciting additions is the new Black Edition, designed for those who prefer a more sleek and subdued look over flashy chrome. While the Golf R itself is already known for its impressive performance, this special edition takes the visual appeal to another level with unique styling touches that set it apart from the standard version.
Starting with the exterior, the Black Edition swaps out the bright chrome trim for a darker, more aggressive aesthetic. You will find black accents on the trim, badges, and even the headlight housings, giving the car a more stealthy vibe. The wheels also get the blackout treatment, with the Black Edition featuring black-painted wheels, exhaust tips, and brake calipers that enhance its overall sporty appearance. For those looking for extra flair, Volkswagen is offering lightweight 19-inch forged alloy wheels, which tip the scales at just 17.6 pounds each.
Power has increased from 315 horsepower to 328 (we told you it wasn't much), and torque stays the same at 310 pound-feet. It also has the same seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel-drive system, and as previously announced, there won't be a manual transmission option. There are some minor changes elsewhere. There's a loud start mode. So if you press the start button without your foot on the brake, wait 1.5 seconds, and then press the start button with your foot on the brake, the Golf R will start up and go straight to 2,500 rpm for a rowdy exhaust note.
On the inside, the Black Edition continues the understated, performance-driven theme. Although most of the interior remains similar to the standard Golf R, the focus here is on elevating the driving experience. The updated 12.9-inch infotainment screen runs Volkswagen’s new operating system, which is seen in their latest ID models. This system, while not perfect, does offer a more user-friendly experience compared to previous versions. Additionally, performance features such as a G-meter for tracking acceleration and a lap timer with GPS integration make it a tech-savvy choice for enthusiasts.
Although pricing details are still under wraps, the 2025 Golf R Black Edition will likely see a slight price increase when it hits European markets later this year.
