22:49 Dark Forces Any% Easy (TFE) Speedrun
12Alright, another 2 days another minute marker down; I spent 1 day doing segment practice and rerouting some sections to have some faster time saves and get more comfortable with certain sequence breaks. This game overall at it's core is a trick based speedrun; the movement is tricky because you move so fast relative to the surroundings, but the core time save is executing setups and then the sequence breaks themselves quickly and precisely.
I am still feeling uncomfortable with a lot of sections (Fuel Station once again got me good) so really it is a matter of playing the game a lot more in order to continue to push my PB down. Right now I think my goal is a 21:xx or a 20:xx run, where 21 I could potentially grab if I kept grinding runs this week, 20 would take a good amount more work though continuing to grind segment practice and/or ILs. I'll probably wait a few days to submit this to the leaderboard, just in case I get a faster time, which I have a good feeling about. Overall one thing is for sure, it has been very fun to speedrun again and especially a game as awesome as this.
The Force Engine (TFE) is a patched version of Dark Forces which is fully functional on modern OS without the use of the emulator DosBox (which is the standard for the speedrunning community of this game). Has a number of QoL features like full mouse aim, Quick Save, a more in-depth rebinding system with modern implements of hardware, etc. This is clearly a labor of love for the developer, and they have made it clear they have a lot of really exciting things that will be added in as they continue to work on it.
