I have wanted to do an entire wad speedrun of Final Doom on UV-Fast for several years, but I was not able to make up my mind to do it, as it's the quite high difficulty. When I returned to the Doom speedrun this past February, I was very determined to complete it. I wasn't used to doing very long speedruns, so I kept practicing with the goal of completing it before Doom's anniversary. I have played through each episode of Scythe2 this summer is quite challenging and a good experience. A speedrun of entire Plutonia on UV-Fast was quite difficult, then I understand why no one had worked on it for a long time.
Map 9 is the most hardest in this speedrun, and apart from map 1 and map 2, this is the map with the most deaths. First of all, there is no armor until the last area, and since map 8 also has no armor, you will not recovery your armor for a long time. You enter the warp locked by 3 keys, but beyond that you are surrounded by enemies and suddenly attacked, which is quite unreasonable, but you can use an invulnerability to avoid this. The serious problem is the final area after that, where mancubie and revenants are placed in the four corners on the worst field: a narrow circular scaffold that is easy to fall into and a sea of acid from which it is impossible to return if you fall in. Also, the entrance is closed, so escape is impossible. There is no place where you can completely avoid enemy attacks. If you stay in one place, you can avoid mancubie fire balls, but homing missiles are very hard to avoid. If you run around the circular scaffold, you can avoid homing missiles, but fire balls are very hard to avoid. No matter what tactics you use, you will finally have to rely on luck. Anyway, it is the ultimate in unreasonableness, and if there had been such traps like this in the latter episode, I might have given up on finishing Plutonia on UV-Fast.
Map 12 is also quite hard. There are many zombies which have hitscan attacks, and they will reduce your health unilaterally from a place where your auto-aim does not work. Since armor is slow to obtain, I prepared well from the previous map to take on this challenge. I played map 10 carefully and kept enough blue armor. map 11 was fortunately easy to finish with no damage, but there were many situations where I was close to death even if we carried over enough armor. I often died on this map.
Map 30 is also quite a difficult map. It is quite tough when the boss summons troublesome enemies such as a pain elemental or an arch-vile. This time, a terrible happening occurred there. A linedef skip occurred, then I was unable to get out of the hollow. The countermeasure itself can be avoided by carefully re-stepping the trick line, but that line is before the warp, so by the time I realized it, it was too late. I regretted so much that I was checkmated for it on the final map. Fortunately, I just noticed an archvile was nearby, so I tried to escape by vile jump and I managed to escape. I had lost my cool because I had taken extra damage in the final map where I was barely able to fight with final boss at 200%. After that, the all enemies were dealt with and I only had to defeat the boss, but my health was unexpectedly low due to the rocket launcher self-destructing. Moreover, I was stuck in a quagmire where the boss kept missing rockets. It was a negative spiral that I could not shoot the rockets calmly and became even more impatient. It was really bad. In the end, I was able to defeat the boss but I also died at same time. Anyway, I'm really glad that I was able to complete this run.
