I have notoriously not been a fan of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild pretty much since it came out. I bought it at lunch with my Nintendo Switch, and it's just not been a game I've enjoyed.

With The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom just releasing, many people ask me if I was going to get it. I'm not. Since it is based on the same game engine as Breath of the Wild, I really have no interest in it whatsoever. I didn't like the crafting, I didn't like the fact that it took forever to get to your next point in the game, it just wasn't something I enjoyed from an experienced standpoint. So that got me thinking, instead of Tears of the Kingdom what are three great Legend of Zelda games I'd recommend that you play instead. Let's take a look.

Number 3
The Original Legend of Zelda
There's nothing better than to go back to where it all began with the original Legend of Zelda on the Nintendo Entertainment System. You can actually play this on your Nintendo Switch with the Switch online service. This helps you understand where everything began, less of an RPG and more of an adventure game, I absolutely love the original Legend of Zelda. Add in the replayability of going through a second time with all the dungeons changing position, and you have one of the best games ever made.

Number two
The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess
Released on both the Nintendo GameCube and the Nintendo Wii, this was one of the launch titles for the Wii, similar to how Breath of the Wild was for the Switch. I absolutely loved the Wii version of this game, I know the waggle controls took a bit for some to get used to but I took right to them. Aiming your bow was terrific with the motion control, Epona was there almost from the very beginning, the only thing that was a bit annoying was Navi. I also appreciated the return to this graphic style from the cell shading that we got on Windwaker, which I was not a fan of.

Number one
The Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past
I've never been a huge fan of Zelda 2 The Adventures of Link because I thought it was too derivative of what the original game was. A Link to the Past gave me everything I loved about the original game and more. This soundtrack is so beautiful in its arrangements, you get a lot of subtlety in all of the sound effects, and the graphic style is just fantastic. I love the fact that you have the light world and the dark World of Hyrule and even little things like the chickens attacking you a few mess with them too much was a blast. This is without a doubt my favorite Zelda game of all time, and in my top 10 of favorite games as well.

What do you think of this list? Are there any games that I left out that you would recommend as well? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
