One of the most underrated video game systems of all time, in my opinion at least, has to be the Sega master system. The games looked great, they sounded fantastic, and I'm glad that I have one in my collection. Sometimes, however, I just don't want to have an extra piece of hardware out if I don't need to. It would be great if I could play Master System games on my JVC X'EYE, and Sega's own Power Base Converter does not work with the X'EYE. What is one to do? Well, we just snagged a Rondo Products Power Base Mini FM from Castlemania Games, let's see if it works.

Similar to Sega's original power base converter, the Power Base Mini FM allows you to play Sega Master System games through the Sega Genesis, Sega Mega Drive, and other compatible systems. The face of it features a pause button, just like the actual Sega Master System. It also features FM sound support for enhanced audio capabilities.

One of the things I was very curious about was whether or not it would work with my JVC X'EYE. Official information indicates it does not, but I wanted to still give it a chance. It does support Sega Master System cartridges but does not support Master System card games or accessories that require the card slot. It also may or may not work on clone consoles.

I grabbed a copy of California Games, something that I got in a recent Video Games Monthly box, connected it to the top of the Power Base Mini FM, and inserted it into my JVC X'EYE.

With my system connected to my RetroTink 5X via HD Retrovision Component Video Cables, I powered my X'EYE on. It worked! I was getting some jumpiness at the bottom of the screen, but I was able to go ahead and change some of the settings on my 5X to eliminate that. I had to change the interpolation settings, but once I did everything smoothed out. This is fantastic!

I know the JVC X'EYE is not the most popular system out there, but good to note that the Power Base Mini FM does indeed work with the system. Make sure you check out the pinned comment where you will find the link to where you can pick one up for yourself.
