Around the World was a simple multiple choice trivia game built into the EA/CBS 3D Atlas programs. The faster you answered correctly, the more miles you earned, with the goal of circumnavigating the globe before the other players, or in less than 12 turns. Every 5 questions, the game would play an old video clip usually based on how well you did (no or few correct answers got you a train wreck or a crash or accident of some kind).

This was a game I used to play on the Power Mac in the library of my grade school probably around 1996. The video clips were always my favorite part. Instead of just compiling the videos (there are already YouTube videos like this), I thought it would be interesting to compare the video files included in the Macintosh and Windows versions side by side.

The Mac version uses Cinepak compression, while the Windows version uses Indeo Video 3 compression. Both are 240×180 video resolution with 16-bit audio. The audio is from the Mac video files. I also included each clips' respective file name (no file extensions for Mac, typical 8.3 for Windows).

I used AviSynth to point-scale the videos to 400% to show more detail without introducing any artifacts from typical bilinear upscaling.
