the takeaway is this: 171 is built on a lot of hot air. there's NOTHING wrong with using pre-made assets to help aid the game development process, but only if you're using them correctly and know what you're doing. Betagames seems to have no idea how to actually make an efficient game and is relying on a heavy use of pre-made blueprints to hack their build together. that can only take you so far. the game feels like its being held together with duct tape and bubble gum, and as an early access title I feel like it's a bad investment. They made $75k+ in crowdfunding alone, but the gameplay at its core is mostly made up of $500 worth of pre-made code and assets. Now they're releasing it for $30. Hell no. Don't buy into the hype. As soon as they can code something that isn't a janky checkpoint chase, then maybe it'll be worth a second look. "well to be fair it IS pre-alpha"... yeah which is more reason why $30 is an ABSURD price they're asking for.
