#43 Stranger of Paradise: Wanderer of the Rift - Rift Labyrinth: Floors 7-9
Wanderer of the Rift is the 2nd of the three DLCs planned for the game. After Jack and co’s encounters with Bahamut, a new problem comes their way through dimensional rifts randomly appearing in their world. One of the new citizens brought about by the rifts is Gilgamesh (from Final Fantasy 5) who claims to be lost and tries to find his way out of the place and to return to his home. Going into the center of the problem, Jack and co will need to enter the Rift Labyrinth in order to discover what caused the appearance of the dimensional rifts and find out who is behind it.
As the next DLC, the game’s new features includes another new difficulty called Gilgamesh which is another step up in terms of enemy difficulty as well as the new mechanic of chaos monster (normal creeps but with new mechanics or moves that makes them a mini boss) randomly appearing in missions. However, the game’s biggest added content is its infinite and roguelite dungeon called the Rift Labyrinth which introduces a floor based of progression in order to advance the story of the DLC that also includes you seeing the different monsters of the game as speaking NPCs and doing their side quests in exchange for their help during your trek in the labyrinth as well as the availability of using classic Final Fantasy items that would help you in the labyrinth. Some of the other added contents are two new bosses and boss stages, chaos versions of the creeps and some bosses, new job class that is the blue mage, and new character upgrades like the Dimension Bringer, summon upgrades in equipments, and new affinities in the job system and smith options.
Gameplay-wise, this was the best DLC out of the three due to the introduction of the Rift Labyrinth which not only added fresh content in the game but also returned some of the classics like the NPC sidequests through the NPC monsters and the availability to use classic FF items (like Phoenix Down) in a souls-like genre. The new smith options and affinities were also great that could further help making your ideal character build. Still though, similar to the previous DLCs, the game did not progress too much story-wise. However, conversations with Gilgamesh gave some good references to other games of the series and the connection of Jack to the “classic Garland”. Enjoy the walkthrough!!!
