5950X & RX 6800 XT Smart Access Memory Benchmarks & PCIE 4 vs 3 - Does it Make a Difference?
742Today, we test the 5950X and RX 6800 XT in a series of Smart Access Memory benchmarks, and examine the performance differences in gaming and synthetic performance results on a full AMD platform. SAM is one of the features AMD touted during the reveal of the RDNA 2 RX 6000 GPUs, and boasted of the gains in gaming performance gained when SAM was enabled on a rig with both a Ryzen 5000 and RX 6000 graphics card.
So, how do the 5950X and RX 6800XT fare with Smart Access Memory on and off? How much difference does the feature make in real world gaming, benchmarks, and synthetic tests?
We also decided to take a look at PCIE 3 vs PCIE 4, and how much of a difference that makes on the performance of the RX 6800 XT RDNA 2 GPU, both in combination with SAM and with it disabled.
With both Nvidia and Intel supporting resizable BAR (aka SAM), it's very interesting to see how this next gen RDNA 2 feature fares and how much you as gamers should care about having it enabled.
