A dictionary app can be very useful. Many include features like a word of the day to help you expand your vocabulary. Those learning a language for the first time may find them useful in defining unfamiliar words. They are also useful for word games such as Scrabble, crossword puzzles, and other similar games. They also consume less battery power and are frequently superior to simply Google Searching the word. Here are the top 6 dictionary apps.

Number 6. English Dictionary & Thesaurus
Advanced English Dictionary and Thesaurus is a very good (but poorly named) dictionary app. It has over 1.4 million words and a slew of decent and unique features. This includes a plethora of synonyms, antonyms, hypernyms, hyponyms, meronyms, and basically any other nym you can think of. The app also has offline support and a tool that defines words when you copy them from another app. Fortunately, that feature is deactivated. It's not bad for the price.

Number 5. WordWeb
WordWeb Dictionary is one of the most popular free dictionary apps for Android. It includes 285000 words, 225000 sense definitions, and more. There's also a thesaurus, pronunciations, and other features. Perhaps its most distinguishing feature is its ability to identify commonly misunderstood words or distinguish between words that sound similar. It's also playable offline, completely free, and has no in-app purchases or advertising. It is relatively simple and lacks common features such as audio pronunciations. Otherwise, it's a solid app.

Number 4. Dictionary.com
Dictionary.com is one of the most popular dictionary apps available. It includes a word of the day, audio pronunciations, a translator for over 30 languages and even word origins. Additional dictionaries can be purchased as in-app purchases. They include a slang dictionary, idioms and phrases, and even a medical dictionary. Overall, it's a good app. It does, however, abuse permissions. This has driven some of the more security-conscious customers away. Otherwise, it's quite good.

Number 3. Merriam-Webster Dictionary
Merriam-Webster Dictionary is one of the more well-known dictionary apps available. Name recognition alone has made it extremely popular. Fortunately, it's also jam-packed with features. Aside from standard word definitions, the app includes word games to help you expand your vocabulary. It also includes an integrated thesaurus, example sentences, audio pronunciations, a word of the day, and many other features. The free version is littered with apps, whereas the $2.99 version is not. Aside from the aggressive advertising, the app is generally quite good.

Number 2. English Dictionary
English Dictionary is another excellent free dictionary app. It has a word count of 239000. That's probably more than you'll ever need. It also has a number of unique features. There is a randomizer that allows you to look up random words. You can also choose between a light and a dark theme if you prefer. There are even some cute little animations that look like you're flipping through a book. Best of all, it's completely free, with no in-app purchases or advertising. It's worth a look.

and finally Number 1. A dictionary by The Free Dictionary
The Dictionary app is a good choice. It has three sources. Words from Webster's, The American Heritage Dictionary, and Roget's Thesaurus are included. The app includes a word-of-the-day feature, a thesaurus, a dictionary, translations to more than 40 languages, and other features. The majority of the app is also accessible while not connected to the internet. Idioms of the day, audio pronunciations, word etymologies, and various other dictionaries are also included. The free version contains advertising, whereas the $1.99 pro version does not. It's definitely one of the better dictionary apps.
