$7 Billion on ONE game?
49Imagine spending 7.8 B and not for the reason you think. The FTC court case against Microsoft is uncovering all sorts of juicy details about the innner workings of the games industry but in particular Microsoft and their quest to make gamepass the place to play video games.
As part of the trial, emails submitted as evidence and phil spencers testemony have revealed that Microsoft feared Sony would be up to their old tricks again and try to deny the next major Bethesda to Xbox players by making Starfield exclusive to Playstation. In the same way they have done for Final Fantasy, Ghost Wire and others.
Microsoft decided to steal a march on Sony and essentially out spend them, locking up Starfield and all future Bethesda titles to Xbox. Its hard to see this as anything other than Microsoft beating Sony at their own game by making games exlcusive to thier platform, not to compete in an open market with fair competition, but to hurt their competitor and consumers.
