The year is 2385. The Starship Mephistopheles drifts through the endless black of space - the last tour of duty for the Captain, Barry Chahal. Alongside the captain are his first mate, Angela Garret, the helms-woman Serena, engineer Lieutenant Adam Gilkenny, Doctor William Taylor and the newly appointed psychologist (and hero of our story), Dr Johnathan Somerset.

One day, by chance (or otherwise), the Mephistopheles intercepts a small, seemingly innocuous box of terrestrial origin. What secrets lie inside the box? Was its discovery really a coincidence, or is there a higher power at work?
