The Screamer is a unique type of zombie that appears and investigates sources of player activity, known as heat levels. Screamers don't pose much of a threat by themselves, as they are relatively weak zombies. However, the screamer's special summoning ability makes it a unique threat.
The heat which attracts these type of zombies is generated by making too much noise (gunshots, explosions...etc), by using forges or campfires for too long and by leaving uncleaned animal guts around after hunting and killing them.
Screamer zombies also have a low chance of summoning additional screamer zombies.[1] This creates the danger of numerous large or never ending hordes that continue to spawn. For this reason, it is important that players kill screamer zombies quickly.
