Making a videogame is really difficult, so it's no surprise some developers need a bit more recognition for all their hard work than a couple of BAFTAs. That's why some developers put themselves in their own games for players to find. Here are seven times game creators turned up in their own games, as themselves, fourth wall be damned. Just try and stop Hideo Kojima putting himself in his games. He's turned up in Peace Walker as a recruitable soldier, in Metal Gear Solid 4 standing in a corner, and Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes as a haunted painting.

His most in-your-face cameo to date is the one in Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes, where he shows up as an intel team agent who manages to get himself captured, necessitating a rescue from Snake.

That's still less jarring than David Cage's appearance in his game Fahrenheit, in which he pops up before the game begins in a rather fetching woolly jumper to explain in painstaking detail how to understand and play his game. We'd rather he explained what the hell was going on in that dead person sex scene, but there you go.
